Winning Starts Here.

Guts Church is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was founded in 1992 by Bill and Sandy Scheer with a passion to reach people who don’t feel comfortable in a typical church environment. We love their out of the box thinking and community forward thought.

GUTS reached out to our team to help design the expansion of their kids’ ministry building. As the first phase of a much larger transformation, this project held significant importance in establishing the foundation for the campus’ future design direction.

Our work on the kids’ ministry building needed to reflect the distinct ministry style of GUTS while also creating a space that felt fresh and forward-thinking. The materials, textures, and architectural details we selected were all chosen with the understanding that this building would serve as the benchmark for future projects, helping to define the overall character and experience of the entire GUTS campus for years to come.

About the Project

Designing an Engaging Kids’ Ministry Space: Where GUTS’ Vision and Distinctive Style Comes to Life

Our team took a comprehensive approach to programming the space, carefully considering how to best accommodate the needs of two distinct age groups and two services. Understanding that the children’s ministry would serve a diverse range of young attendees, we designed flexible spaces that could easily transition between different activities and service formats. This thoughtful programming ensured that both groups could engage with the space in ways that were developmentally appropriate and supportive of their unique needs.

A key focus throughout the design process was placemaking. We worked closely with GUTS to understand their vision, mission, and the essence of their ministry, ensuring that the space would reflect their distinctive brand and ministry style. The goal was to create an environment that would not only be functional but also be a source of inspiration and excitement for children. With GUTS’ adventurous and energetic spirit in mind, we infused the space with playful and imaginative design elements that resonated with their values.

We also paid special attention to the design of every component in the space, from the selection of furniture and fixtures to the creative use of lighting, graphics, and architectural features. We incorporated vibrant, engaging elements such as climbing walls, loft spaces, and interactive areas to promote exploration and physical activity. Each design decision—whether it was the choice of materials, the layout of the space, or the selection of decorative features—was made with the intention of creating an immersive, cohesive environment that felt like a seamless extension of the GUTS story. The result is a dynamic and inviting kids’ ministry space that both captures the essence of GUTS’ mission and provides an engaging, meaningful experience for the children it serves.
